Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries following a hit-and-run car crash Sunday morning, a spokesperson from the Toledo Police Department and a spokesperson from her congressional office confirmed to NBC News. “This morning Congresswoman Kaptur was a passenger in a vehicle on her way to a church service when the car she was traveling in was struck. She is active, alert, and being treated for non-life threatening injuries,” Ben Kamens, a spokesperson for Kaptur, said in a statement.Sgt. Mohamad Nasser, a spokesperson for the Toledo Police Department, said in a separate statement two people were transported to the hospital after the “hit-skip crash” and that a police investigation was still ongoing. Kaptur, 80, is one of the longest-serving members of Congress. She first won election to her seat in Ohio’s 9th District in 1982 and was sworn in the following year.Kaptur’s district, which President Donald Trump won in 2020 and 2024, is routinely a top target of Republicans. She is running for reelection and eked out victory in 2024 by less than one percentage point. Shortly after news of Sunday’s car accident was made public, members of Congress on both sides of the aisle publicly voiced support for Kaptur.“I’m praying for my colleague @RepMarcyKaptur after her crash this morning.
