Mbappe, 27, has not featured since being forced off with the muscular injury during Madrid’s La Liga draw with Real Betis on April 24 and missed last week’s win over Espanyol. It was subsequently confirmed the forward had sustained a left hamstring strain and The Athletic reported he was targeting a return against Barcelona on May 10. Alvaro Arbeloa said after the win at Espanyol last Sunday, however, that “it might take a bit longer” and “we’ll see how Mbappe is this week”. If Madrid win, however, they will reduce the gap at the top to eight points with three league matches remaining, and Barca could instead secure the title against Alaves the following Wednesday. Mbappe has scored 41 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions this season, either side of a series of short-term spells out with a left knee injury. Madrid have a host of absentees for the match including Fede Valverde, Rodrygo, Eder Militao, Arda Guler, Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy.
