Real Madrid icon Iker Casillas sums up Bernabeu chaos with next manager pick

Real Madrid great Iker Casillas has claimed that he would have Xabi Alonso as the club's next manager - only eight months after he was moved on. Alonso was hired in the summer following his hugely successful spell at Bayer Leverkusen , but lasted just half a season at the Bernabeu before the hierarchy opted for a change. Los Blancos have endured another horror campaign and will almost certainly finish without a trophy. The former Spain midfielder, who spent five years playing for Real, had long been tipped to return in the dugout but endured a short-lived spell. His exit came amid rumours of a dressing room divide. Los Blancos have continued to endure internal issues, the latest of which has seen Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni fined more than £800,000 after an alleged physical altercation. Alvaro Arbeloa has been in charge since Alonso left, but he's set to be moved on too, leaving the club looking for another new manager and Casillas already wants Alonso back. He said: “I would bring Xabi Alonso back. He was the ideal coach for Real Madrid .” The former goalkeeper went on to add: "When decisions are made, things don’t always work out. You also have to analyse situations - for example, when the decision was taken to sack Rafa Benítez and how everything unfolded afterward. In football, it’s the day-to-day results that ultimately define things.” Alonso won 24 of his 34 games in charge of Real but his side were booed off in the latter part of his reign. A loss to Celta Vigo prompted an emergency meeting for the club's hierarchy to discuss Alonso's future. It was well documented that the tactics Alonso wanted to employ were at odds with some of the players. The BBC claimed that Alonso argued with star striker Kylian Mbappe about tactics before Sunday's Copa del Rey final loss to Barcelona . He also had a disagreement with president Florentino Perez shortly before the decision to part ways was taken later in the day. Among the frontrunners to be Real manager next season is Jose Mourinho , who had a three year spell at the club between 2010 and 2013.
