The joint opposition held its first parliamentary meeting at Parliament House on Monday and agreed on a collective strategy to address violence, the economic crisis, political repression and other key national issues. The meeting was attended by opposition leaders, including Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and other parliamentary leaders. Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the opposition parties had agreed to play a joint role in Parliament and would formulate and pursue collective strategies through mutual consultation. The opposition parties also agreed to keep their joint struggle focused on parliamentary and legislative forums. They decided to adopt a unified position on key national issues, including inflation, the deteriorating law and order situation, the creation of new provinces, the judiciary, the economy, terrorism, political prisoners and other matters of national importance. Speaking to ARY News, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said the country had reached a point where neither property nor honour was safe. “We are living in a country where nothing is safe—neither property nor honour. Even the government has admitted that the system has collapsed,” he said.
