Rafael Câmara took his first ever FIA Formula 2 pole position in a dramatic Monaco Qualifying session. With the field split into two groups, the Invicta Racing driver, running in Group A, struck the barrier at the final corner on his first lap, causing damage to his rear suspension. Câmara was forced to pit as his team worked hard to fix the car, but a Red Flag earned them more time, with the Brazilian later returning to the track to set a 1m 20.923s. The Scuderia Driver Academy member beat Alexander Dunne to the top time in Group A, the Rodin Motorsport driver ending up 0.110s behind his rival. In Group B, it was Campos Racing’s Nikola Tsolov that topped the leaderboard with a 1m 21.053s. The Red Bull junior beat Rodin’s Martinius Stenshorne to P1 by over two-tenths, and sealed front row start for Sunday’s Feature Race alongside Câmara. The two Rodin drivers, Dunne and Stenshorne, are set to go from row two, while DAMS Lucas Oil’s Dino Beganovic will start from fifth, having finished third in Group A. Next on the calendar is Saturday’s Sprint Race where the second Invicta of Joshua Duerksen is set to start from reverse grid pole, alongside the other Campos of Noel León. Lights out is scheduled for 1415 local time, but for now you can read a full report from today’s FIA Formula 2 Qualifying session in Monaco on the official website here.
