Quneitra, Israeli army arrests two civilians in Rafid

Israeli forces arrested two civilians from Rafid (in southern Quneitra countryside, southern Syria) on Tuesday, March 24, after a military convoy of more than ten vehicles advanced into the area and remained there for several hours.

The Quneitra Media Directorate said the arrest took place near Tal al-Durayat, in the vicinity of Rafid.

An Enab Baladi correspondent said the Israeli army arrested Khaled al-Fahd, 45, and Mohammad al-Fahd, 24, in the village of Rasm al-Za’roura near Rafid in southern Quneitra, while they were grazing sheep.

In a related field development, Israeli forces also advanced on Tuesday toward Ofania (in northern Quneitra countryside, southern Syria).

The forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance to the quarries area in Ain al-Bayda village, on the road linking Jubata al-Khashab and Ofania, while five other military vehicles carried out a patrol around the town and village before withdrawing from the area.

Israel has continued its attacks and incursions in southern Syria since December 8, 2024. It has established several military bases in Quneitra and has been carrying out near-daily raids and arrests.

Israeli forces release some detainees after several hours, while keeping others in custody and taking them to unknown locations. Israeli violations have also included bulldozing farmers’ land and spraying pesticides containing toxic substances that have affected the region’s vegetation cover.

The Syrian government continues to call for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from its territory and a return to the 1974 disengagement agreement signed between the two sides.

Repeated arrests

On Monday, March 23, the Israeli army arrested a Syrian young man among five people it had detained temporarily near al-Mantara dam in Quneitra countryside.

An Enab Baladi correspondent said the Israeli army arrested Alaa al-Ghazali, from Qarfa village in Daraa countryside, while releasing four others after several hours and confiscating their motorcycles near al-Mantara dam, close to an Israeli military base.

The correspondent added that the arrest was preceded by an incursion and a search campaign targeting several homes in Al-Samdaniyah al-Gharbiya village, adjacent to the dam.

Ongoing violations

Israeli forces advanced on Monday, March 23, into al-Samdaniyah al-Sharqiya village (in northern Quneitra countryside, southern Syria) and searched several homes belonging to residents.

Earlier, an infantry unit of 30 Israeli soldiers advanced toward the Ruwayhina dam area (in northern Quneitra countryside, southern Syria).

Another force consisting of six military vehicles also advanced into the Yarmouk Basin area (in western Daraa countryside, southern Syria), carrying out a limited deployment at several points in Wadi al-Ruqad before fully withdrawing after a short period.
