Quieter night in pool for Scots, but more finals reachedImage source, PA MediaByAmy CanavanBBC Sport Scotland at Tollcross International Swimming CentrePublished25 July 2026, 23:06 BSTUpdated 21 minutes agoFriday night at Tollcross was always going to be a tough act to follow, eh?There were no podium places or rousing renditions of Flower of Scotland on Saturday night, but there was still cause for smiles among the Team Scotland swimming ranks, with more spots in finals secured.The roar which rippled round here when Duncan Scott tapped the wall at the end of the men's 200m individual medley final will struggle to be matched, but the loudest cheer on this night came when Angharad Evans stormed to victory in the second semi-final of the women's 100m breaststroke.The 23-year-old is a frightening prospect in the pool and made everyone sit up - if they weren't already - as she cantered home to book her place in Sunday's final with the fastest time.That showpiece is at 19:20 BST. One hour later, Katie Shanahan will be searching for her second medal following Friday's silver in the 200m backstroke, in the 100m backstroke final.Shanahan missed the chance for a second chunk of metal in the last race of the night as she competed in the 4x100m mixed relay team who finished fifth, though they did set a new Scottish record.Part of the team was, surprisingly, poster boy Scott. He received a hero's welcome as he returned, racing second after Evan Jones and before Evie Davies, but ultimately the field was too strong.Earlier in the evening, Sean McCann finished eighth in the men’s 400m freestyle final, Lucy Grieve was seventh in the women's 50m butterfly final and Matthew Ward broke the men’s 50m backstroke Scottish record on his way to seventh in that final.Related topicsCommonwealth Games
