The Kremlin has acknowledged that Putin's security has been tightened around the event but Russian officials have dismissed reports of a plot against the despot as nonsense. The annual parade on Moscow's Red Square to mark the defeat of Nazi Germany will have no military hardware on display due to the "current operational situation", according to the Russian Defence Ministry. It comes as Russia and Ukraine have confirmed they have agreed a three-day ceasefire, brokered by the US. "It is a sign of his growing weakness and the damaging impact of the latest Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russia, and rising hostility from his own people," said a Moscow source. "Putin is suddenly vulnerable, even scared and enfeebled. The dictator has blinked first." But this year, for the first time in nearly two decades, the parade will take place without tanks, missiles and other heavy weapons, aside from a traditional flyover of combat jets.
