Police officers were called in after a child brought a kitchen knife to their Stoke-on-Trent primary school. Sandon Primary School, in Meir, has today released a statement to parents following the incident which took place yesterday. The school is currently closed until Monday May 11, owing to the May Bank Holiday and inset days scheduled for next week. A letter states: "We are writing to share clear information about an incident in school yesterday which we know has caused concern. A pupil brought a kitchen knife onto the school premises in a bag. The knife remained in the pupil's bag until it was secured by staff. "The situation was managed safely without the need for a lockdown. The CCTV in the corridor has been reviewed and we are confident that there was no threat to pupil safety and wellbeing. "We immediately notified the parents of the pupils involved, the police, and relevant agencies who are now involved in managing the situation. Please be assured that the safety and wellbeing of all our pupils and staff remain our highest priority," reports Stoke on Trent Live . "We understand that this incident has caused alarm within the school community and we apologise for the limited communication regarding this matter. However, due to the sensitive nature and the ongoing involvement of external authorities, we were unable to share details until now. "Whilst we must respect the confidentiality of the pupil involved, we want to assure you that the academy is treating the incident with the utmost seriousness to ensure the ongoing safety of our pupils." Anyone with information is urged to ring the police on 101.المصدر: Mirror | Source: Mirror
