ISLAMABAD: Leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) were once again denied permission on Thursday to meet incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan at Adiala jail.

The party had submitted a list of six individuals — Mehr Abdul Sattar, Shahid Iqbal, Shehzad Bhatti, Iqbal Khan Khattak, Syed Faiz-ul-Hasan Gilani and Sardar Faisal Nadeem — to the jail authorities seeking permission for the meeting.

It is pertinent to note that the Islamabad High Court has allowed Mr Khan’s family members to meet him on Tuesdays, while party leaders are permitted to meet him on Thursdays.

Chaudhry Awais Younas Advocate, who prepares and submits lists of prospective visitors at Gate No 3 of Adiala jail on Mondays and Wednesdays, told Dawn that all six leaders arrived outside the jail but were not allowed to meet the former premier.

Party alleges jail authorities ignoring IHC orders regarding meetings with ex-PM

“They waited from 2pm to 4pm and returned after the visiting hours ended. It is unfortunate that the jail authorities are not implementing court orders,” he said.

PTI slams economic policies

In a separate development, PTI leaders criticised the federal government over what they described as flawed and short-sighted economic policies that have pushed the country’s economy into decline. They urged the government to prioritise the long-neglected southern districts of KP and address their chronic challenges without further delay.

Speaking at a press conference, former KP finance minister Taimur Khan Jhagra described the recent agreement between the United States and Iran as a positive development for regional peace and stability. However, he stressed that Pakistan must first put its own affairs in order to move forward.

He urged the government to reform the tax system and revive the economy, arguing that greater emphasis should be placed on attracting investment to address the country’s mounting challenges.

MNA Dawar Khan Kundi criticised the federal government for neglecting the southern districts of KP and demanded greater attention to these underdeveloped regions.

Separately, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram expressed concern over what he described as prolonged judicial delays in cases involving Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
