Princess Anne steps out at Ascot to crown King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner

Princess Anne cut a stylish figure at Ascot racecourse on Saturday, donning a jacquard green belted dress paired with a cream jacket and a coordinating pillbox hat, as she crowned winners.

At 75, the Princess Royal once again sported her beloved gold horse brooch — a piece she has had in her collection since the 1980s — adorned with diamond detailing on the mane and tail.

The brooch has become something of a hallmark for the princess at racing events, having appeared at both Cheltenham Festival and Royal Ascot over the years.

A three-strand pearl necklace and matching earrings completed the ensemble.

Her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, accompanied her in a taupe suit with a patterned tie.

The couple watched the racing from the royal box before Anne handed the trophy to the owners of Kalpana, who triumphed in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

The race stands as one of flat racing's most prestigious contests.

Ascot's social media described it as having been "created in the aftermath of the Second World War" from "a desire to unite the nation's two greatest races in honour of King George VI and to give Britain something to believe in during a time of rebuilding and hope."

Winning the King George, as the race is commonly known, is widely regarded as among the finest accomplishments in flat racing.

Ascot's official Instagram account marked the occasion, noting it was "always a pleasure to welcome Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal to Ascot."

The late Queen Elizabeth II herself had a deep connection to the sport, owning and breeding thoroughbreds throughout her reign, with more than 20 Royal Ascot victories to her name.

Anne's ties to the equestrian world run remarkably deep. She made history as the first royal to represent Britain at the Olympics, riding her mother's horse Goodwill at the 1976 Montreal Games.

Her competitive achievements began even earlier, claiming gold at the 1971 European Eventing Championships and adding two silver medals at the same competition in 1975.

The sporting gene has clearly passed to the next generation. Her daughter, Zara Tindall, earned a silver medal as part of Team GB's eventing squad at the London 2012 Olympics.

It is a family legacy that few can rival - spanning decades of dedication to competitive riding at the very highest level, and one that lends particular significance to Anne's continued presence at Britain's most celebrated racecourses.

Saturday's outing at Ascot capped off a particularly active week of engagements for the Princess Royal.

On Friday, she travelled to Southsea in Portsmouth for the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix Practice Day.

In her capacity as President of the Royal Yachting Association, she was shown around the F50 race boat by Olympic sailing legend Sir Ben Ainslie.

On Thursday, Anne headed to County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland to mark the 85th anniversary of the Air Training Corps. She spent time with air cadets drawn from across the province.

During the same visit, she paid her respects at Commonwealth war graves located at St Tighernach's Church of Ireland and Sacred Heart Church in Irvinestown, where 86 airmen who perished during the Second World War are buried.
