Mrs Tyler passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday evening at a hospital in Portugal, where she had been receiving treatment near her home in Faro.
The 75-year-old singer, born Gaynor Hopkins in Neath, South Wales, had undergone emergency intestinal surgery in May, which led to her being placed in an induced coma.
By June, her team had confirmed she was no longer in the coma but remained critically ill in intensive care, with doctors expressing confidence in her eventual recovery.
A statement on her official website announced the devastating news: "Bonnie's family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for."
She leaves behind her husband of more than five decades, Robert Sullivan.
Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones revealed her heart was "broken" by the loss, sharing a deeply personal connection to the singer.

Mrs Tyler had married Mrs Zeta-Jones's cousin, Mr Sullivan, making the Welsh star a cherished member of her extended family.
"Bonnie was married to my cousin and has been such a part of my life," the 56-year-old actress wrote on Instagram, posting a photograph taken the evening before her own wedding.
The Chicago star recalled how the Welsh star had performed at her nuptials, describing her as "an extraordinary woman with vocals to match."
The Wednesday actress also praised Mrs Tyler's wit, noting she "so easily could have been a comedian because she was one of the funniest people I ever met."
Sir Cliff Richard, who collaborated with Mrs Tyler on the 2019 duet Taking Control, mourned the loss of a "wonderful friend gone too soon."
"Bonnie's infectious zest for life entertained so many around the world, and to be a good friend to all, including me," he wrote on Facebook, describing the news as "shocking."
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer lauded her as "one of Britain's greatest recording artists," with his spokesman noting her songs continue to "touch lives, flood dance floors and fill karaoke booths."
Welsh First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth declared that Wales had "lost a true icon."
"I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Bonnie Tyler," he posted. "I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and fans across the world."
