Prince William bestowed a prestigious honour upon the couple's trusted driver during an Investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.

Lance Sergeant Scott Robin Bishop received the Royal Victorian Medal in silver for his dedicated service to the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The 43-year-old heir to the throne presented the award alongside other notable recipients at the ceremony, including actress Cynthia Erivo, comedian Matt Lucas, and darts sensation Luke Littler.

LSgt Bishop's recognition marks a rare public acknowledgement of one of the Wales household's most discreet staff members, whose work remains largely hidden from public view for privacy reasons.

The Royal Victorian Medal holds a distinctive place within the British honours system, differing markedly from the MBEs and knighthoods typically bestowed upon sportspeople and entertainers.

Unlike most accolades, this particular honour lies entirely within the royal's personal gift, bypassing ministerial advice and independent committees altogether.

Queen Victoria established the medal in 1896, creating gold, silver and bronze categories to recognise exceptional personal service to the Crown.

Because His Majesty alone determines its recipients, the award represents a direct and intimate expression of royal gratitude.

This makes it an especially meaningful distinction for those who serve the monarchy faithfully behind closed doors.

LSgt Bishop's honour follows that of another cherished member of the Wales household who received identical recognition earlier this year.

Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, the family's devoted nanny, was presented with the Royal Victorian Medal in silver during a ceremony in March.

Both loyal staff members featured in King Charles's New Year Honours List, which was made public on December 29.

The inclusion of these two household employees offered an unusual glimpse into the private world of the Wales family, publicly acknowledging individuals who typically work in the shadows.

LSgt Bishop has transported the royal couple for many years, moving them to official duties and private family occasions alike.

His position demands not merely driving expertise but also security awareness, discretion and composure under the intense scrutiny that accompanies royal movements.

Mrs Borrallo, who trained at the prestigious Norland College in Bath, joined the family full-time following Prince George's birth in 2014.

The Spanish-born nanny has since cared for all three Wales children—George, now 12, Charlotte, ten, and Louis, seven—accompanying them through overseas tours, house relocations and countless family milestones.
