The Casely-made devices were first flagged in April last year by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), with officials warning at the time that there had already been dozens of reports of the lithium-ion batteries overheating, swelling or catching fire while people were charging their phones. Those early incidents left at least six people with minor burns, while one left a 75-year-old woman in New Jersey dead. She was using the wireless charger on her lap in August 2024 when it suddenly burst into flames and exploded.
