Police release image of man known to woman, 19, who died after gunshots heard at house in Barnet: Manhunt underway for 21-year-old as detectives seek to trace his steps

Published: 17:21, 9 June 2026 | Updated: 17:26, 9 June 2026 Police have released an image of a 21-year-old man they are urgently tracking down after the death of a woman in Barnet.  The victim died aged 19 at a property in Dale Grove, north London, shortly after midnight on Monday after paramedics from the London Ambulance Service reported hearing gunshots inside.  Officers are now desperately tracing James Duncan, from Barnet, who is known to the victim and fled from Dale Grove at around midnight on the night of her death.  The 21-year-old is seen wearing a Nike tracksuit while walking through a shop in one of the images while, in another, he is pictured sat at a dinner table. Duncan is yet to be found despite officers 'working around the clock' to track him down.  The public have been urged not to approach the man if they do see him, but to instead dial 999.   The deceased is yet to be named and the Met will not confirm her cause of death before a post-mortem examination takes place. Her family is being supported by specialist officers.  The Met Police is trying to track down James Duncan (pictured) after the death of a woman in Barnet The 21-year-old, from the Barnet area, was known to the victim and fled the street where she died at around midnight on Monday Duncan is yet to be found despite officers 'working around the clock' to track him down Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, who is leading the investigation, said: 'My team are working around the clock to locate James Duncan, and piece together the incident that resulted in the death of a much-loved young woman, daughter and sister.  'I urge people with information – especially those who have details on James' whereabouts - or anyone with relevant doorbell or dashcam footage from Dale Grove to immediately contact police.'  Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, who leads policing in the area, added: 'I understand that this incident – and an appeal of this nature - will cause concern within the community.  'Keeping residents safe is our top priority and I would like to provide reassurance that we believe this to be an isolated incident.  'As enquiries continue, residents will see an increased police presence in the area and I encourage anyone with concerns to speak with those officers on the ground.'
