Police have launched an appeal for two men they wish to speak to after a teenage girl was allegedly sexually assaulted on Brighton beach.

According to Sussex Police, the ordeal happened on June 23 close to West Street - just a stone's throw from the city's famous Royal Pavilion.

The force said the teenager was sexually touched over her clothing while she was in the water.

Prior to the alleged sexual assault, the men are said to have approached the girl while she was with a friend before sitting down next to them.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Police are investigating a report that a teenage girl was sexually touched over clothing on Brighton beach, in an area near to the bottom of West Street.

"The incident was reported to have happened in the late afternoon/early evening on June 23.

"The men were alleged to have approached the victim and her friend a short time earlier and sat with them on the beach before the offence took place in the water.

"Officers would now like to speak with the two men in the images in connection with further enquiries."

The force has urged anyone with information to call 101, quoting reference 1694 of 23/06.

It follows a separate incident on the same beach which saw three asylum seekers convicted of the "extreme" rape of a woman which left her life "destroyed".

A jury in April convicted Egyptian national Ibrahim Alshafe, 25, and Iranian national Abdulla Ahmadi, 26, of the “callous” rape of the woman in the early hours of October 4, 2025.

Egyptian national Karin Al-Danasurt, 20, was also convicted of all four counts of rape as a secondary party because he encouraged the rape and filmed it.

Al-Danasurt was jailed for 24 years and six months.

Meanwhile, Alshafe and Ahmadi were both sent down for 27 years.

The prosecution had said Al-Danasurt, who was pictured laughing as he was led from the court after being convicted in April, was convicted of murder in Egypt before he illegally entered Britain on a small boat crossing.

The court heard Al-Danasurt had said in his second asylum interview with the Home Office he had been convicted of murder in his absence, but insisted he was innocent.

Following their sentencing, the Home Office confirmed it would "move to deport" the three migrants.

Earlier this month, Sussex Police arrested a man on suspicion of raping a woman on Brighton beach - though it appears he has not been charged.

On August 5, the force said a 28-year-old man was being held in custody after a woman reported the incident, which is said to have occurred late at night.

The woman - who is in her 20s - is being supported by specialist officers, the force confirmed.
