Police have issued a new update after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed at Barry Island over the bank holiday weekend. Emergency services including an air ambulance rushed to the heavy seaside resort on Monday afternoon after a 17-year-old boy was "stabbed in the leg". Following the incident South Wales Police released a statement which said efforts were ongoing to "trace the suspect". The force later said an 18-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident. In an update on Wednesday morning a South Wales Police spokesman said the man had been bailed. The 17-year-old required hospital treatment following the incident but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing. Following the stabbing traders at Barry Island spoke to WalesOnline and criticised the lack of police presence in the beloved sunspot as thousands of youths, many drinking alcohol, packed into the area around the beach on Bank Holiday Monday. Louis Ross, who runs Barrybados along the seafront, said there weren't enough police at the beach from the start of the day. He said: "You can sense it sometimes when something is going to happen." South Wales Police previously said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. It said there will be an increased police presence in the area to provide reassurance to the public. Anyone with information about what happened should contact the force and give reference 2600163243 as the investigation continues.
