Police in Casablanca Arrest 2 Taxi Drivers for Murder

Rabat – Police in Casablanca arrested on Saturday two taxi drivers involved in a fatal assault, killing another driver.

Police said they conducted an examination of the victim’s body, which was found abandoned in the Ain Chok area, bearing signs of physical assault with a bladed weapon.

The victim was a 74-year-old man, identified as a second-category taxi driver.

Police investigation helped identify the two suspects, aged 40 and 48. Police arrested one of them in Oujda, in the Oriental region.

Police arrested the second suspect simultaneously in Casablanca.

Investigators found both of the suspects guilty. Search also enabled police to seize a light vehicle in Casablanca suspected of having been used by the detainees in committing the crime.

Moroccan authorities put both suspects in custody to determine the circumstances of the case and the motives behind the crime.

The incident came a month after another viral case, with a video capturing a shocking and brutal attack in Kenitra’s industrial zone, in which a man violently struck another professional driver on the head with a large stick.

Last week, a Kenitra court sentenced a workers’ bus driver to 15 years in prison on Wednesday for violently attacking a truck driver

According to the police’s annual report, Morocco recorded a total of 779,000 criminal offenses last year.

The national security report said violent crimes were down by 10%, while the crime clearance rate stood at 95%.
