Police say they are ‘aware’ of a video appearing to show a York City player punching a fan following their dramatic promotion. York secured a place in League Two on Saturday with a thrilling draw against promotion rivals Rochdale . Rochdale thought they had secured victory, with Emmanuel Dieseruvwe scoring in the fifth minute of stoppage time. That triggered a mass pitch invasion, with fans flooding the pitch. But the game continued, with York eventually scoring an equaliser in the 103rd minute of the game through Josh Stones to snatch the only automatic promotion spot. It saw York finish top of the table on 108 points, while Rochdale were second in 106. However, the dramatic scenes saw an incident involving a fan putting his hands on a player, who was on his knees with his head against the ground. Two stewards eventually got involved but the player managed to break free and appeared to strike the supporter in the face. JOIN US ON FACEBOOK! It read: "We are aware of a video that is circulating of a possible assault involving a player and we have linked in with both clubs and the National League. We will be further assessing the video and reviewing CCTV of the incident." It took six minutes for the home side to clear the pitch of supporters before the game got back underway. And York boss Stuart Maynard that time actually helped his side regroup and eventually get their equaliser. “I think that helped,” said Maynard. “That time to reflect. "It’s twice in two weeks, we’ve had our heart broken that we’ve had one hand firmly gripped on the trophy and it got taken away for all of 60 seconds. “But look, they’re a group of winners in there. They’re warriors. They keep going all the way to the end. "I’m so proud of them all. I told them we’ve just got to get the ball forward. They came over and we just said, everyone go up front, bar the goalkeeper. "We’ve got to get it forward. And Callum Howe said it, there’s going to be one big moment - and there was.” Rochdale, who have offered their support to a three-up campaign in the National League , will now head into the playoffs for a place in League Two. They have earned an automatic spot in the semi-finals and will take on either Scunthorpe United or Southend United, who clash in an eliminator on Tuesday evening.
