Police are called to children's netball game after mother allegedly shouted disgusting abuse at Jewish players

By MATT JONES, SENIOR NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 14:42, 9 May 2026 | Updated: 14:42, 9 May 2026 A children's netball game in Sydney was ruined on Saturday after a mother allegedly hurled antisemitic abuse at Jewish players. Police were called to Heffron Park in Maroubra, in the city's east, just after 10am, as the under 12s game between Maccabi Netball Club and Saints Netball Club was being played. A number of parents from the Maccabi team told the Sydney Morning Herald that a mother from the Saints team allegedly said, 'F*** the Jews', and 'they should have all been eradicated'. Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-chief executive Alex Ryvchin was quick on the scene and claimed the abuse occurred in front of everyone and that 'it wasn't muttered under the breath'. 'This sort of thing seems trivial, but it has an impact,' Mr Ryvchin told the publication. 'It's not just words; it affects how [Jewish children] view themselves, their Jewish identity and their place in society.' Police spoke to a 42-year-old woman and issued a move-on direction.  President of Maccabi Netball Club Adam Dinte released a statement which read: 'We are aware of a deeply distressing antisemitic incident that occurred at a netball game today involving Jewish players and families from our club. We are taking this matter extremely seriously.' 'We are also writing a formal letter of complaint to the Randwick Netball Association and the opposing club. Australian Jewry co-chief executive Alex Ryvchin slammed the alleged abuse 'Jewish players, parents, coaches, administrators and supporters have the right to participate in community sport safely and confidently, free from racism, abuse, intimidation or vilification.' A statement from Saints Netball Club said that it 'unequivocally condemns and disavows antisemitism in all its forms'. 'Such remarks do not reflect the values, principles or standards of our club, our members, our players or our wider community,' the statement said. 'The Saints Netball Club offers our sincerest and most unreserved apologies to the Jewish community.' Daily Mail contacted Randwick Netball Association for comment.
