Bart lent a helping hand, or arm, to his batterymate, starting pitcher Braxton Ashcraft, to do a gender reveal at the top of the first inning. Bart’s pink sleeve signalled to Ashcraft’s family in attendance that he and his wife, Cassidy, are expecting a baby girl. The broadcast cut to Ashcraft’s family celebrating and hugging Cassidy in the stands while Ashcraft and Bart warmed up on the field. Bart flashed a big smile after seeing the family’s reaction to the news. The Pirates are off to an 11-7 start this season, and have gone 6-3 at home. The gender reveal at PNC Park comes less than a week after Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Pfaadt wore light pink shoelaces to help his brother with a gender reveal during a game in Philadelphia. The shoelaces let Pfaadt’s family in Kentucky know that his brother, Brett, and sister-in-law, Hannah, are having a girl. Pfaadt told MLB.com that Brett first wanted him to use a pink glove or pink cleats, and they eventually settled on the shoelaces. Spot the pattern.
