By WILL HALLOWELL, NEWS REPORTER Published: 20:14, 24 June 2026 | Updated: 20:17, 24 June 2026 These are the first pictures of a maths teacher who has been struck off after he was caught trying to access pornography more than 100 times while on duty. Dr Andrew Moore had worked at Sherborne Girls School in north Dorset for almost 20 years before he was sacked in November 2024 for attempting to use the school's WiFi network to view adult content. Only one month before he was caught, the 59-year-old had been promoted to head of mathematics at the independent £56,000-per-year independent girls' school. Moore's attempts to gain access to pornography while he was on duty at the school's boarding house were discovered when Sherborne's IT system had flagged his internet searches for the 'blocked' content. The school's head of IT reported these incidents to the headteacher - but only days later, Moore once again attempted to access pornography websites on the school's WiFi network. The 59-year-old admitted the allegations at first, but claimed later that he had clicked on a phishing site impersonating the Money Saving Expert financial advice website and the content had popped up. Moore was sacked, and a misconduct hearing has now struck him off from working as a teacher. An employment tribunal has now ruled that Moore is guilty of 'serious misconduct'. The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) has now banned him from the profession for two years. Dr Andrew Moore, 59, had worked at Sherborne Girls School in Dorset for nearly 20 years and had been promoted to head of mathematics just weeks before he was discovered attempting to access pornography on the school's WiFi network He had made more than 100 attempts to access adult websites over a short period of time in October 2024 before he was suspended the following month He began working at Sherborne Girls, a private school in Dorset for pupils aged between 11 and 18, as a maths teacher in January 2006 and became head of the department in September 2024. However, only one month later, the school's IT system revealed that attempts by Moore to access pornography websites the previous day had been blocked. On October 9, 2024, the IT system flagged in a daily report that Moore had tried to access seven websites under the banned category of 'sex'. The incident was reported to the headteacher, but eight days later Moore made another attempt to access five adult websites between 4pm and 8pm while on duty in one of the girls' boarding houses during a prep class. On October 18, another report flagged that Moore tried to access four adult sites. It was found that on the day before he had made more than 100 attempts to access pornography over a short period of time. A witness told the tribunal that when she invited Moore to her office to discuss the incidents, he made 'full admissions and had been remorseful and embarrassed'. The following day, after the meeting, the maths teacher wrote a contrite email to her, admitting he was 'ashamed' of his 'stupid' actions. Moore wrote: 'I am sending this email to say how devastated I am for letting myself, you and the school down so badly. Moore had initially admitted to trying to access pornography while at work, telling a colleague he was 'ashamed' of his actions, before later claiming he was the victim of a phishing attempt 'I feel incredibly stupid and ashamed in equal measure for what has happened and can only ask for your forgiveness. It goes without saying that this will never happen again. I can only apologise unreservedly again for my stupidity and poor judgment.' However, when he attended a disciplinary meeting his 'demeanour had changed' and he denied the allegations, claiming he'd been the victim of the phishing attempt, causing a 'stream of pornographic websites' to open which he claimed he had 'quickly closed'. In a later disciplinary meeting, Moore again denied the allegations and claimed that 'malware or the browser cache may have caused the attempts to access pornographic websites, or that his phone may have unlocked itself and made the attempts', according to the tribunal report. The teacher later claimed in a written response to the allegations that on October 8, 2024, he had 'inadvertently attempted to access pornographic websites when he had clicked on a phishing email purporting to be from "Money Saving Expert". 'This had led to several adult websites opening on his personal mobile device in quick succession, which he had closed quickly.' Explaining the attempts to access pornography on October 17, 2024, Moore claimed that on the first attempt, he had finished work. On the second attempt, he said he was likely to have finished supervising a prep class and to have been using his phone. But he could not explain how his phone had attempted to access blocked sites during these times, but denied that he had intentionally done so. The tribunal stated: 'The panel was satisfied from the evidence presented that Dr Moore's personal mobile phone had been used on a number of occasions on 8 and 17 October 2024 to attempt to access pornographic websites. It was clear that these attempts had been made whilst present on school grounds and connected to the School's WiFi network. Pictured: The £56,000-per-year independent Sherborne Girls School in Dorset, whose pupils are aged between 11 and 18 'The panel was also satisfied that in light of the duty rota, Dr Moore had been on duty in one of the girls' boarding houses when activity on his device indicated that he had attempted to access a blocked site on 17 October 2024 at 19:57... 'The panel concluded that Dr Moore had intentionally attempted to access those sites. It was not provided with any other credible reason for this to have occurred.' It added: 'The panel was satisfied that the conduct of Dr Moore amounted to misconduct of a serious nature which fell significantly short of the standards expected of the profession, and thereby was unacceptable professional conduct.' He was dismissed in November 2024 and the case was sent to a misconduct hearing. Dr Moore did not attend the Teaching Regulation Agency hearing in Coventry and was not represented. All the allegations against him were found proven on the balance of probabilities. Stuart Blomfield, decision-maker on behalf of Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson, concluded: 'The findings of misconduct are serious. 'The lack of full insight and remorse means there is some risk of the repetition of this behaviour, and this puts at risk the future wellbeing of pupils.' Moore has now been prohibited from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children's home in England for two years.
