Auguste-Marie Bile-aka Amoa, 25, is believed to have been dropping his girlfriend off at The Landor pub on Willington Road when he was gunned down.  He had found himself in the 'wrong place' at the 'wrong time', according to a friend.  Shortly afterwards, a 22-year-old man attended hospital with a gunshot wound and was arrested on suspicion of murder, according to the Metropolitan Police. He remains in hospital under police guard. Heartbreaking tributes have been paid to Auguste online by friends and colleagues who described him as 'the sweetest' and 'a clean-hearted person' with the 'kindest soul'. Last night, floral tributes were laid and candles lit in the shape of the letter A near a police cordon and close to where he was pronounced dead.  In one online tribute, a colleague wrote: 'Trust me so humble and hardworking. No one to banter with at work and get onto for not wearing uniform and strolling to take over your bus. You’re really going to be missed.' Speaking near the scene, the friend of the victim described him as a 'cool guy', adding that he believed he was not the intended target. He's a cool guy, like I said, bus driver, hard-working. 'It's shocking because of who he is and his character.' The man, who also works as a bus driver, said the death is 'going to hurt a lot of people'. Despite paramedics arriving within three minutes, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Staff from The Landor are understood to have helped the victim after the shooting.  A police forensics tent remained in place across the road from the pub on Tuesday, while several bouquets of flowers had been laid and a candle lit near its entrance.  Another friend of the victim, who asked to remain anonymous, said he was a 'great guy', adding: 'It's been hectic, everyone's very hot-headed right now, everyone's obviously grieving and I feel extremely bad for his mother as well, she's in bits. It is understood he was dropping his girlfriend off at  the pub on Willington Road when he was gunned down Mr Bile-aka was described as a 'hard-working' bus driver A woman at the scene claimed: 'It was mistaken identity'. A 26-year-old woman living nearby said she heard four gunshots and initially thought it was the sound of a car backfiring. She added: 'There was a guy lying on the ground, lots of blood around him. There were loads of people around him, I went and helped. 'I work in healthcare and I went and helped assist.' The woman added that when the police arrived, the crowd of people helping stood back and let them take over. She said there was a significant emergency response with armed police officers at one point. A resident told London Now: 'It was shortly after 10pm and I heard lots of sirens, and I heard bangs - I think it was five or something. 'I said: "Do you think they were gunshots?"' Another local said she now wants to move out of London, fearing for the safety of  her two-year-old grandson growing up in the city. He said he saw a moped and white car drive off before the police arrived, while women could be heard 'screaming and crying' outside. The victim's family is being supported by specialist officers, police said. Detective Chief Inspector Claire Guiver, who is leading the investigation, said: 'Our thoughts remain with Bile-aka’s family as they come to terms with this tragic incident. 'We continue to appeal for anyone with information to come forward. 'If you were in the area at the time of the shooting, witnessed anything suspicious or have any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage that could assist our investigation, we urge you to get in touch.  'Any piece of information could prove vital in helping us piece together the full circumstances.' Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, Central South Borough Commander, previously said: 'We understand that the incident will cause concern within the local community and an increased police presence will remain in the area throughout the day as our enquiries continue. Our thoughts remain with the victim's family for their tragic loss. 'Officers have arrested a man on suspicion of murder, and we are working tirelessly to establish what happened. 'We are asking anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to please contact us as soon as possible and support the ongoing investigation.' A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: 'We were called at 9.59pm on Monday 10 August to reports of a shooting on Landor Road. 'We sent resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and paramedics in fast response cars. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London's Air Ambulance. 'Our first paramedics arrived in three minutes. Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.' Clapham, an affluent south-west London suburb which is home to wealthy residents and young professionals, has been rocked by violence in recent years.  Last month, one man was killed and four more were injured in a stabbing in the area Police were called to the nearby Tremadoc Road in the early hours of July 25. Six men were arrested on suspicion of murder. And last year, a 27-year-old man was shot dead on New Park Road in Clapham. Kyrone Moodie was one of two men shot in the attack on Monday, September 8, 2025. A 20-year-old man was also injured and taken to hospital.
