The defense secretary stressed that combat readiness and lethality should be the military's top priorities. 'You are not an army of one. And you are certainly not an army of woke,' he said. Hegseth also vowed to back military commanders who make split-second battlefield decisions without fear of political blowback. 'No more walking on eggshells. Order is being restored,' he said. 'Lawyers don't run battalions. Commanders do.' 'No matter what, President Trump and I will have your back when tough decisions are made,' Hegseth added. 'Understand, your hands are untied.'
