Jamie Redknapp has warned Pep Guardiola he was speaking to the wrong Crystal Palace players after his post-match team talk vent viral. Manchester City beat the Eagles 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening. Antoine Semenyo gave City the perfect start, with Omar Marmoush and Savinho also getting on the scoresheet. That win sees them move two points behind Arsenal with just two games of the season remaining. After the full-time whistle, Guardiola was seen talking in depth with a host of Crystal Palace players including Adam Wharton, Maxence Lacroix and Jefferson Lerma. And Redknapp believes the Spanish coach was giving the trio a bit of advice ahead of their last-day clash with title rivals Arsenal. “City just have to keep going and hope there’s a little bit of pressure on Arsenal, a few doubts across their minds and they struggle,” Redknapp said. “I think Burnley will be straightforward [for Arsenal] but Crystal Palace. Latest Gunners news and more on our dedicated Facebook page “I was watching Pep at the end of the game and he was certainly giving them a team talk and a half, trying to get them going for that game. He was very, very animated. We always see him maybe going up to one or two players. “But he’s like, ‘Jefferson [Lerma], listen, in midfield, you’ve got to make sure you get close to Declan Rice ’… ‘You, [Maxence] Lacroix, you’ve been brilliant this season, keep going! If you keep doing good I’ll sign you!’… ‘Adam [Wharton], you control that midfield!’” Despite that, Redknapp has suggested those instructions will fall on deaf ears, with Palace expected to rotate over the coming weeks with a Conference League final on the horizon. He added: “The thing is, most of these players won’t be playing I would have thought because they’ll be rested. That’s my feeling anyway, they’ve earned that right.” Palace boss Oliver Glasner has already responded to suggestions that he could shuffle his pack for their final two games of the season. Speaking before the trip to the Etihad, he joked that he was paid by neither Arsenal nor City so did not owe either side anything. Meanwhile, he hinted that he could rotate after seeing City do the same. He added after the defeat at the Etihad: “Manchester City have a huge final in three days, so maybe it is the legitimation to make a huge rotation against Arsenal [before the Conference League final].” Join our new WhatsApp community!
