dair bilgisi olan bir Pentagon yetkilisi, ABD'nin İran'a yönelik deniz ablukasına ilişkin açıklamada bulundu. Pentagon'un savaşın maliyetine ilişkin tahminlerini paylaşan yetkili, ablukanın petrol geliri açısından İran'a yaklaşık 4,8 milyar dolara mal olduğunun değerlendirildiğini belirtti. ABD Merkez Kuvvetler Komutanlığı (CENTCOM) 30 Nisan'da, ABD'nin İran limanlarına uyguladığı abluka nedeniyle şimdiye kadar 42 geminin geri döndürüldüğünü açıklamıştı. İran Devrim Muhafızları Ordusu, 28 Şubat'taki ABD-İsrail saldırılarının ardından, 2 Mart'ta, Hürmüz Boğazı'nın geçişlere kapatıldığını duyurmuştu. ABD Başkanı Donald Trump, İran'la Pakistan'da düzenlenen müzakere sürecinin başarısızlığa uğramasının ardından sosyal medya platformundan yaptığı açıklamada, Hürmüz Boğazı'nı abluka altına alma sürecini başlatacaklarını belirtmişti. Bu açıklamanın hemen ardından CENTCOM, 13 Nisan'da İran limanlarına giren veya bu limanlardan çıkan tüm gemilere yönelik deniz ablukası başlatacağını açıklamıştı.
