By OLIVIA DAY, ASSISTANT NEWS EDITOR, AUSTRALIA Published: 04:50, 16 May 2026 | Updated: 04:52, 16 May 2026 A peaceful town in Tasmania home to just over 1,000 residents has been rocked by a 'extremely confronting' murder-suicide.  The bodies of a couple aged in their sixties were found by police officers at a rural property on Native Corners Road just after 10am on Friday.  It's understood the man phoned a family member, who then called triple-zero. Detective-Inspector David Gill from Tasmania Police said the scene was 'extremely confronting' for first responders.  Paramedics were the first to find the man and woman deceased at the property.  Det-Insp Gill thanked the family member who provided detailed information to police. 'I can't, out of respect for the family members, and also due to the nature of the investigation, I won't go into too much detail,' he told media on Friday.  'I can categorically say that this couple were not known to police in any way, shape or form, there had been no interaction at all.' Det-Insp Gill said it appeared the man had ended his own life using a knife and that a 'female inside the residence has received injuries causing her death'.  A peaceful town in Tasmania home to just over 1,000 residents has been rocked by a 'extremely confronting' murder-suicide (ambulances at the scene are pictured) The bodies of a couple aged in their sixties were found by police officers at a rural property on Native Corners Road (pictured) just after 10am on Friday 'The investigation thus far indicates it is a family violence incident and we are treating this as a murder-suicide,' he said.  No comments have so far been submitted.
