Heatwave conditions show no signs of abating across much of Britain, with forecasters warning that several regions could approach an entire month without rain.

Wisley in Surrey has now experienced 27 straight days without rain, while substantial portions of England have received none of their typical July rainfall whatsoever.

Wales and Northern Ireland are similarly parched, with precipitation levels sitting well below seasonal averages.

High-pressure systems are expected to maintain their grip on UK weather patterns for at least another week, potentially pushing temperatures in southern England as high as 33C.

This persistent dry spell means meaningful rainfall remains unlikely for the foreseeable future across most of the country.

This summer has already shattered multiple temperature records, with Lingwood in Norfolk registering 37.7C in June, eclipsing the previous benchmark of 35.6C established nearly five decades ago in 1976.

The number of days exceeding 35C has reached six so far this season, surpassing the previous high of five from 1976.

Similarly, nine days have now topped 34C, beating the eight-day record also set that year.

UK weather rain

Britain has made history by recording temperatures of 35C or higher across three separate calendar months, May, June and July, something never previously documented.

Provisional Met Office figures indicate that during the first 11 days of July, most locations received less than 20 per cent of their expected monthly rainfall.

More than eight million households across England are currently subject to hosepipe restrictions as the drought intensifies.

The prolonged dry conditions have significantly increased wildfire risk, with Natural England issuing warnings of "very high" or "exceptional" fire risk across much of England and Wales over the coming days.

Blazes are already alight in several locations, including Greater Manchester, Derbyshire and Conwy.

While dry weather alone cannot spark wildfires, an ignition source such as barbecue embers or discarded cigarettes is required, the lack of moisture leaves vegetation increasingly combustible.

These parched conditions allow fires to establish themselves more readily and spread more quickly once started.

Temperatures are forecast to climb back towards 32C or 33C across southern England by the middle of this week, following a marginally cooler start.

Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and other parts of England can expect readings in the mid-to-high 20's.

These conditions mean heatwave thresholds will likely be met for several more days, with some areas potentially experiencing a fortnight of continuous heatwave weather.

Northerly winds arriving at the weekend should deliver some respite, though temperatures will remain above normal for the time of year.

Southern regions may still meet heatwave criteria even after this cooling.
