Pakistan, Malaysia to boost ties

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held talks with Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail in Islamabad, where both sides agreed to expand cooperation in counterterrorism, anti-narcotics efforts, cybercrime prevention, and immigration management. The meeting resulted in a decision to establish a Joint Working Group between the two interior ministries and strengthen intelligence-sharing mechanisms to combat terrorism, drug trafficking, and human smuggling. The Malaysian Home Minister arrived at Pakistan's Ministry of Interior and held a one-on-one meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. This was followed by delegation-level talks attended by senior officials from both countries. During the discussions, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and explored ways to increase cooperation in areas related to internal security and law enforcement. They exchanged views on counterterrorism measures, anti-drug operations, preventing illegal immigration, and tackling cybercrime. Both ministers agreed that intelligence-sharing would play a key role in addressing security challenges and disrupting networks involved in terrorism and narcotics trafficking. They also discussed steps to make joint efforts against human smuggling more effective. The two countries also agreed to enhance cooperation between Pakistan's National Police Academy and the Royal Malaysian Police College. Discussions were held on expanding training programs and sharing expertise in law enforcement. Cooperation in the coast guard sector was another important area of discussion. Both sides discussed measures to promote travel between the two countries and make visa procedures easier. Mohsin Naqvi said Malaysia remained a preferred destination for many Pakistani travelers and expressed hope that an increase in work quotas would allow more Pakistanis to seek employment in Malaysia through legal channels. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors.
