Justin Edmonds / Getty Images Share article3As the Green Bay Packers prepare to pick in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday night, they locked in their 2023 second-round pick by signing wide receiver Jayden Reed to a three-year extension worth $50.25 million, league sources told The Athletic. The $16.75 million average annual salary makes Reed the 29th-highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, according to Over The Cap. Reed, who was entering a contract year, has been one of the Packers’ most versatile offensive weapons since arriving in Green Bay three years ago, and has also factored on special teams. He missed 10 games last season after undergoing collarbone and foot surgeries early in the season, but has amassed 138 catches for 1,857 yards and 15 touchdowns in 40 career regular-season games to go along with 34 carries for 310 yards and three touchdowns. Reed has also returned 27 punts with an average of 8.3 yards per return. This offseason, the Packers let wide receiver Romeo Doubs sign for big money with the New England Patriots and traded wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles. They were left with a sturdy top three at the position of Christian Watson, Reed and 2025 first-round pick Matthew Golden, but questions remained about the future of the group with Watson and Reed both entering contract years. Reed’s future now has an answer, while the Packers face a decision on their closest thing to a No. 1 receiver in Watson. “It was big-time,” quarterback Jordan Love said of Reed’s return from injured reserve late last season in a Week 14 win over the Chicago Bears. “He made some big-time plays, and I think there’s still more out there we could’ve got him involved in. Yeah, he’s just a playmaker.” Reed set a Packers franchise rookie record with 64 catches in 2023, breaking Pro Football Hall of Famer Sterling Sharpe’s then-35-year-old record of 55 receptions. Reed led the team in catches and receiving yards (793) as a rookie and tied for the team lead with eight touchdown grabs that year. He also led the team with 55 catches and 857 receiving yards in 2024 while ranking second that season with six touchdown catches before missing more than half of the 2025 season with multiple injuries.
