OGDC announces major oil, gas discovery in K-P's Kohat

In a major development amid the ongoing energy crisis, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) announced on Wednesday what it termed as the "largest oil and gas discovery in the country’s history" at the Bazgai X-1 well in the Nashpa block. According to an OGDC spokesperson, the discovery in Kohat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was being described as a significant exploration success for Pakistan. The company also aims to scale up LPG production to 200 metric tonnes per day by the same year. Calling the development an important milestone for the country’s energy security, Minister of State for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik said the project would help save $329 million annually in foreign exchange. “Discoveries will increase domestic reserves and reduce dependence on imported fuel,” he said, adding that the find would also help ease the energy crisis.
