Dustin Satloff / Getty Images Share articleAfter missing the final two games of the New York Knicks’ second-round matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers because of a hamstring strain, forward OG Anunoby practiced with the team Tuesday … sort of. Per Knicks coach Mike Brown, Anunoby participated in parts of practice but did not take part in live action. Brown said he’s unsure if Anunoby will be ready for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals and is taking it “day by day.” “(The medical staff) told me what he can do today,” Brown said, “and then they’ll tell me what he can do tomorrow.” New York has not revealed the severity of Anunoby’s strain, and teams aren’t required to divulge that information. The Knicks’ sweep of the 76ers will give Anunoby more than a week of rest and recovery as they wait to find out if they’ll be facing the Detroit Pistons or the Cleveland Cavaliers in the East finals. That series is tied 2-2 going into Wednesday night’s Game 5. Anunoby was having a tremendous postseason before his injury. The 28-year-old was scoring 21.4 points per game on 61.9 percent shooting from the field and 53.8 percent from 3. He was also grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game and averaging 1.9 steals. Miles McBride filled in for Anunoby in the starting lineup in the final two games of the Philadelphia series. Though he struggled in Game 3, McBride’s 3-point shooting set the tone for a blowout Game 4 victory. The 25-year-old guard made all four of his 3-point attempts in the first quarter and finished with seven made 3s and 25 points in 29 minutes. New York’s bench has been one of the bright spots during this dominant playoff run, which includes a seven-game win streak by an average margin of victory of 26.4 points. McBride rose to the occasion in Game 4 against the 76ers, as did reserve guard Landry Shamet, who was out of the rotation for most of the first-round series against the Atlanta Hawks. Jordan Clarkson has also been a positive contributor off the bench. Anunoby will need to be 100 percent, though, for New York to get over the Eastern Conference finals hump and reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999. If Anunoby is available to play in the next round, he will likely be the primary defender for Pistons star guard Cade Cunningham or Cavaliers big man Evan Mobley, depending on which team advances to face the Knicks.
