Rabat – Morocco’s OCP Arica teamed up with Togo’s Ministry of Agriculture to officially launch the Regional Agricultural Mechanization Center (CRMA) of Kpalime on Thursday.

This inauguration marks the completion of a milestone project led in collaboration with the World Bank, OCP Africa indicated in a statement. The goal of the project is to support the long-term transformation of Togo’s agricultural sector, it added.

The center will offer proximity agronomic support and a model farm and demonstration plots among several other services,  benefiting over 600,000 farmers by facilitating access to services, inputs, and knowledge essential to improving farming practices.

Komi Selom Klassou, President of the National Assembly of Togo, inaugurated the center alongside Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe, President of the Council.

The inauguration of the center falls within the framework of implementing the cooperation agreement that Togo’s Ministry of Agriculture and OCP Africa signed in Lome on May 31, 2023.

The partnership reflects a “shared commitment to strengthening farmers’ access to modern, tailored agricultural services,” the statement added, describing the inauguration of the center as a major and tangible milestone.

The construction of the project was carried out between June 2024 and February 2025 to energize the local economic ecosystem.

The development phase saw the mobilization of nearly 40 companies representing over 120,000 working hours.

The plan prioritized the use of local materials and services to support the country’s employment and strengthen the capacities of national actors involved in building agricultural infrastructure.

The center will operate as a regional one-stop shop for Togolese farmers, offering soil analysis, access to quality agricultural inputs, including customized fertilizers, as well as agricultural mechanization services.

For OCP Group, this center represents a living testimony to OCP Africa’s stated mission of supporting the continent’s food security and agricultural sustainability amid regional challenges and geopolitical uncertainties, including conflicts.

The group has been contributing to the continent’s food and agriculture sector through many similar initiatives, including by offering aid to farmers while demonstrating the importance of fertilizers and their power to turn soils into a fertile ground for income and continental food sustainability.
