Dropped calls, messages that won’t send and internet connection that grinds to a halt have become a frustrating fact of life for many people in one Welsh city. Two years after widespread complaints about poor mobile coverage in Swansea , fresh reports suggest that the problem has far from gone away and continues to cause headaches for customers. Although people using any network may experience difficulties sometimes, customers of O2 particularly reported problems in the area. WalesOnline first reported on the issue back in 2024, having noticed issues there ourselves. Two years on in May 2026 a frustrated local man contacted us to say the issue had far from improved. He said: “Unsurprisingly nothing has improved since, or for that matter, for possibly ten years. I’ve had a mobile phone with my employer using O2 for the last 20 years. “Phones and technology have improved but not the service. It really should be raised by members of the Senedd, I’ve written to O2 and often, but no responses. “I live in Llansamlet and anywhere between here and Swansea city centre the cover on a call would drop multiple times.” In response a spokesman for O2 confirmed an issue had recently affected customers in the Llansamlet area. When issues occur the spokesman advised customers to enable wi-fi calling. The spokesman said on Friday: “We’re aware that some customers may experience temporary periods of network congestion in the Llansamlet area and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We’re working closely with our infrastructure partner, Vodafone, which manages the masts in the region, to help boost capacity and improve network performance. “In the meantime, we’d recommend customers enable wi-fi Calling on their device, allowing them to make and receive calls and texts over any broadband network.” He added that customers may experience periods of network congestion at busier times. Last week WalesOnline reached out to the people of Swansea to see how widespread the issue is. Maureen Hughes said: “I am with Tesco (02). I live in Plasmarl. I have lost many calls whilst using my phone. Keeps losing the signal.” Julie Goulding said: “I am with o2 and never get a problem.” Ezz Lewis said: “02 is useless in town, if It picks up 5g it doesn't work at all, my contract ends in a month so its time to say goodbye to them.” Jessica Beavan said: “I’m with Sky [O2], I literally have no signal when I’m in town.” Katrina Hodges said: “Definitely with O2! I think Swansea is in some sort of black hole for signal as I can be out in the middle of the countryside and get a better signal.” Rebekah Jenkins said: “I’m with EE and have no problem with signal anywhere other than the Gower which I’m sure everyone does.” Lee Doxey said: “I'm on Giffgaff O2 at the top of Cimla, hit or miss with the signal, more misses than hits but O2 works when abroad in Europe.” Lynda Jefferies said: “I live in Swansea and have had O2 for nine years, on my nine-year-old phone and have no complaints for the last nine years.” Manda Warlow said: “I’m now with Vodafone and the only place I struggle with signal is in the range in Llansamlet.” Elaine Williams said: “I’m with O2 and I can barely get a signal when I’m in Swansea.” Get Swansea news updates on your phone by joining our WhatsApp community here .
