Norwegian crown princess's son is found guilty of rape

By LETTICE BROMOVSKY, NEWS REPORTER Published: 07:47, 15 June 2026 | Updated: 07:59, 15 June 2026 The son of Norway's crown princess has been found guilty of rape and jailed for four years.  An Oslo court on Monday convicted Marius Borg Høiby of two counts of rape, sentencing him to four years in prison in a high-profile scandal that has rocked the monarchy. The 29-year-old son of Mette-Marit from a relationship prior to her 2001 marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, was accused of 40 charges, carrying a maximum possible sentence of 16 years in prison. He was acquitted of two other counts of rape and convicted of domestic abuse against an ex-girlfriend, issuing threats and traffic violations. The seven-week trial gripped the Nordic country, detailing Høiby's drug addiction, self-made videos of sexual encounters and more than 800 electronic messages entered into evidence.  One alleged rape took place in the basement of the crown prince's family home, the court heard. Høiby was not in court for the verdict, but joined the session via video link.  Hoiby, 29, Mette-Marit's son from a relationship prior to her 2001 marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, was accused of 40 charges  The verdict was delivered amid difficult personal circumstances for Mette-Marit, Hoiby's mother, who this month was placed on the national lung transplant list as her health has severely deteriorated. She suffers from pulmonary fibrosis, a condition that makes it increasingly difficult to breathe. Without a transplant, she has around a year left to live, her doctors have said.
