The New York Times removed ex-Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro from their "39-ish Most Sylish People of 2026" list earlier this month, according to an editor's note.

The note at the bottom of the list, dated July 7, read, "This article has been updated to remove an entry on Nicolás Maduro. Read our Styles story about how an image of him in a tracksuit became a meme."

The outlet's style section reported on how President Donald Trump's Truth Social post of a photo of Maduro in a grey tracksuit following his capture went viral and quickly became a meme.

Page Six first reported the removal on Friday. The list was published by the Times on July 7.

The Times' style piece about Maduro from January read, "Despite the seriousness, and shock of seeing a foreign leader in these circumstances, some people online have sidestepped the politics and seized upon the image itself, in order to talk about the clothing."

The Times did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

The U.S. military launched strikes against Venezuela and captured Maduro on Jan. 3 — emerging from the operation largely unscathed as it handicapped Venezuela’s defense systems and potentially conducted cyber operations against Caracas.

Maduro is awaiting trial on federal drug trafficking and weapons charges.

Altogether, more than 150 aircraft — including U.S. bombers and fighter jets — were involved in the operation, successfully completing a "large-scale strike" against Venezuela, according to Trump. Additionally, Caracas, Venezuela, suffered power outages early Jan. 3 — an indication of a potential cyber operation.

The Times' list included Stephen Colbert, whose "Late Show" on CBS ended in May, as well as several political figures.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary RFK Jr., New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's wife, Rama Duwaji, were included as well.

The list also pointed to Second Lady Usha Vance, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, and Katie Miller, a podcast host and wife of Stephen Miller, the deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security advisor in the Trump White House.

The Times listed Miller, Vance and Leavitt in one category titled, "Pregnant Women in the Trump Sphere."

"It’s a potent image for an administration that has made clear its position that women should be having more children. These three women — Usha Vance, Katie Miller and Karoline Leavitt — create a portrait of idealized femininity, the counterpart to the masculine bravado put forth by the men of the White House," the Times wrote.

The outlet's list also included a range of actors, podcast hosts, foreign leaders, athletes and New York Knicks fans.
