New video footage has emerged showing the moment Vickrum Digwa told his mother to take away the knife he used to stab Henry Nowak.

Kiran Kaur, 53, the killer's mother, was jailed for three years for removing the murder weapon from the scene after the 18-year-old university student was killed in Southampton last December.

Back in June, Digwa was sentenced to a minimum of 21 years in prison for stabbing 18-year-old Mr Nowak to death with a Sikh ceremonial blade before falsely accusing him of racially abusing him.

The murder triggered international fury over “two-tier policing” and whether officers were pressured by a sense of “anti-white prejudice”.

Now, new footage from the night of December 3 shows how Kaur helped her son hide the murder weapon.

At the scene of the crime, Digwa called his mother asking her to take the knife. She later attended the scene.

In the video clip taken on the killer’s phone, pointed to the ground, he is heard telling his mother in Punjabi to take away the knife.

Digwa, speaking in Punjabi, said “take this”, a transcript showed.

Kaur attended the scene and took the large dagger from him, the CPS confirmed. The convict returned to the home address, which is shown in the footage.

The Sikh ceremonial blade was then stashed at the family home before officials recovered the murder weapon.

Judge William Mousley KC sentenced the 53-year-old mother at Southampton Crown Court this afternoon, after being found guilty on May 28.

Throughout the trial, Kaur chose not to give evidence before the court and used a Punjabi interpreter as she received her sentence.

Sentencing Kaur, Judge William Mousley KC said, “Henry Nowak was a much-loved young man," and “your son, Vickrum Digwa, murdered him."

He continued to describe the “devastating and lifelong impact of Henry's death on the entire family."

The court heard him address Kaur: "Your sons showed a callous disregard for Henry's wellbeing."

He said: “Vickrum told you to take the murder weapon away”, and “you knew there could be no justification for him to stab Henry."

The Judge told Kaur: “A responsible parent would have challenged their son over their actions and encouraged them to do the right thing. Instead, you took the knife home and put it with other weapons in your son's bedroom.

"Your behaviour added to your son's pretence he had done nothing wrong and that he was a victim."

Nicholas Lobbenberg KC, prosecuting, said: "This is criminality in the highest order.”

Judge Mosely KC added the dagger should “be worn as a symbol of religious faith never to be carried for an offensive purpose".
Digwa's sentence has since been referred to the Court of Appeal under the unduly lenient sentencing scheme for review.
