Neighbours left baffled after privacy fence built just inches from living room window

Residents in Bristol have been left baffled after a privacy fence was built just a few inches from a property's living room window.

Enormous wooden panels now sit mere centimetres from the ground floor of the house in Lockleaze, entirely blocking any view from inside.

Workers were spotted carrying out construction at the unoccupied Bristol bunker earlier this week, stirring up a concoction of confusion and bemusement across the community.

The newly-constructed sturdy structure now blocks any natural light from entering through the window.

A gap exists between the building and the driveway that could potentially pose a danger to small children with local workers suggesting the drop would be classified as a hazard.

One neighbour said: "When I initially saw the fence I thought just the same as everyone else who's seen it really - I mean what were they thinking?

"It totally blocks the living room window of any light and view.

"Someone described it as daylight robbery, which did make me laugh!"

The resident explained the believed reason behind the fence was to close the gap between the house and driveway where small children could fall.

They questioned why a solid barrier was chosen over alternatives, with one resident arguing that the same privacy could have been achieved with railings or wire fence.

Both options still allow natural light to pour through the window.

Another neighbour offered up a more eccentric theory that the job was created by a computer, which was completed by a human "without asking any questions or using any common sense".

The bizarre installation has since triggered widespread mockery online, raising concerns over why the construction was carried out at all.

One social media user wrote: "Oh my goodness - that is beyond stupid!"

Another commented: "This is ridiculous, surely the person who put that up must have questioned it? They must have some common sense!"

A third person posted: "I would pull that right down. It sounds like day light robbery to me!"

Initial rumours suggested Bristol City Council was responsible for the house.

However, the authority has set the record straight and denied ownership.

Councillors added it currently has no further details about the new fence.

A spokesman for the city council said: "Officers are working to understand the details around the installation of the fence and we will share an update as soon as we can."
