National Lottery issues urgent call to Britons as £12m jackpot still not claimed

A lottery prize worth a whopping £12 million remains unclaimed more than two weeks after the draw, with the unknowing ticket holder urged to come forward.

The winning Lotto Jackpot ticket was purchased somewhere in Rhondda Cynon Taf ahead of the draw on June 6, with all six main numbers successfully matched: 08, 10, 26, 30, 35 and 42.

National Lottery operator Allwyn is now appealing to players across the Welsh valleys to check their tickets carefully.

The mystery winner has until December 3 to come forward and collect their prize, giving them a lengthy five months to present what could be a life-altering slip of paper.

Andy Carter, senior winners advisor at Allwyn, described the unclaimed jackpot as an "incredible win for one lucky Lotto ticketholder".

He urged players to consider whether they might be holding the winning ticket, and said: "Think back to if this could be you, as we want nothing more than to unite the winner with their prize money."

Mr Carter added: "Imagine this sum of money in your bank account and how it could change not only your life but that of your friends, family and charities or good causes close to your heart.

"This is a massive win and we can't wait to unite the lucky ticket-holder with their Lotto Jackpot prize."

Wales has produced many lottery millionaires over the years, such as Sandra Fosbrooke, a former Asda employee, and her partner Ken Henry, who worked as a factory machinist.

The pair scooped £12million in 2005 whilst living in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire - spending their fortune on global travel and property for family.

Perhaps the most dramatic Welsh win came in 2009, when Les Scadding and wife Samantha Peachey-Scadding from Caerleon, Newport, claimed £45.5million, despite being unemployed and overdrawn when the ticket was purchased.

A Monmouth family secured £61million on EuroMillions in 2016, after Sonia Davies asked her daughter to buy tickets following successful cancer surgery.

More recently, a group of 15 Tata Steel employees from Port Talbot celebrated a £1million jackpot victory in February this year.

The colleagues, who previously worked lengthy 14-hour shifts together in the company's finance department, each received £66,666 - with plans to clear mortgages, take holidays and purchase new vehicles.

The largest anonymous UK lottery win on record stands at a staggering £195million, claimed by an unknown EuroMillions player in 2022.

Lottery prize winners have a 180-day window to submit their claim, after which any unclaimed money is redirected to support National Lottery-funded projects across the country.

The big unclaimed win comes as the "biggest ever" National Lottery draw launched this month, in a major shake-up doubling the amount of millionaire winners each year.

Allwyn has revamped the Lotto game so that two separate sets of six main balls and a bonus ball are drawn using two different machines in every draw.

This gives players two chances to win from a single line in round one, round two or both, where the price stays the same at £2 a line, with the same number of balls in play.

Allwyn said the change improves the odds of winning any prize from one in 9.3 to one in 4.9, and is expected to grow the annual number of Lotto millionaires from around 140 to approximately 345.
