Nana Akua says she is 'so glad' GB News came along five years ago: 'They tried to take us for fools!'

GB News star Nana Akua has reflected on her five years at GB News and said she is "so glad" the channel came along when it did.

During a special edition of Patrick Christys tonight in Essex, Nana recalled how the critics "tried to take the public for fools" by predicting the channel will be quickly shut down.

Nana said: "It's so insulting that they thought that they could take us for fools.

"One of the things that really sticks in my mind is I left the BBC, I loved the BBC. They were good trainers, actually, but sadly they didn't take any notice of their own guidelines, which I thought was quite entertaining."

"But the problem is that we're paying for them, and you have to, otherwise you go to jail."

Nana recalled one incident on the Jeremy Vine Show which got her in "hot water" with the BBC: "And when I was working for the BBC, I went on the Jeremy Vine Show, and GB News didn't exist.

"I went on that show and they were talking about paedophiles and I said, 'oh, paedophiles should be executed'. And Jeremy said 'how', and I said 'electric chair, lethal injection - I don't really care as long as they're dead. I'd go back and check to make sure'.

"And he said, 'wouldn't you feel bad?', and I said, no, because if there was a law that said that they could be executed, then I would want them to be executed."

After being told off by the BBC for the remarks, Nana said she realised working for the broadcaster was "not the place for her".

She said: "So that got me in hot water at the BBC, because I didn't even do it on the BBC, and at that point I realised that this is not the place for me. Unfortunately, I won't last much longer there. So I was so glad to see GB News come along."

Looking back at her five years with GB News, Nana said that she has had "so much mud" thrown at her, even being called "evil" by critics.

She explained: "And since as I've been here, like Michelle from the very, very start, I remember all the mud that was thrown at us. I remember doing a monologue called I Am A Woman and at the end I said, a woman does not have a penis.

"You would think that that is quite obvious, but oh no, you should have seen the things that were thrown at me, the words, how evil I was, and I thought, God, I love this, I'm staying."

Reflecting on her time at GB News, Michelle Dewberry admitted that she was relieved to find a community with "similar viewpoints" to her, which made her feel "less alone".

She said: "You actually forget some of the absolute ridiculousness that has gone on in the last five years.

"When you go back to that period of the lockdown, the ridiculous control, the enforced vaccine mandates, you could feel like you was just going mad in your own little world.

"And to me, GB News, we really came into our own because it made me feel that there was a collection of people that had similar viewpoints that made me feel less alone."

Michelle continued: "I know that we provided a voice to many people that was terrified. We'd been terrified out of our minds in some instances, or made to be.

"So I just felt really proud, actually, looking back at some of the stuff that's gone on.

"Some of it is quite depressing because when you see the chaos, when you see some of the absolute ridiculousness that's gone on over the last five years, some of it is still continuing, I think we've got a lot of work that we need to do."
