A murder investigation has been launched after a teenage boy was killed in a suspected stabbing in south-west London.

Officers were to reports of a stabbing after a "potential altercation" on Glycena Road, Battersea, in the early hours of Saturday morning, the Metropolitan Police said.

Police went to the scene after the call at 4.20am, alongside paramedics and an air ambulance where they found the 17-year-old, who was seriously injured.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, Scotland Yard said.

Police have launched a murder investigation and officers are in the surrounding area, with a large crime scene still in place and surrounding roads closed,

The Met Police has confirmed no arrests have been made so far.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and in particular want to speak to anyone who saw a group of males running in Lavender Hill between 4am and 5am on Saturday.

Senior investigating officer for the Met’s Specialist Crime Command Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie said: "Our inquiries are progressing intensively, and our thoughts remain firmly with the victim’s family at this extremely difficult time.

"I understand this incident will cause significant concern within the community. There is a continued and highly visible police presence in the area, and I would encourage anyone with concerns to approach officers at the scene.

"This is a critical stage of the investigation and I am appealing directly to the public: if you were in the Lavender Hill area between 4am and 5am, specifically Glycena Road, Acanthus Road or Pountney Road, and witnessed a group of males running, please come forward.

"Any information, no matter how minor it may seem, could prove crucial. CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage may provide vital evidence."
