Murder arrest after 'well-loved dad and grandad', 74, dies at Trevethin home

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a "well-loved dad and grandad" died at a property in Wales. Nicholas 'Brian' Parfitt, from Trevethin, whose family said he was "highly thought of in the community," died on Bythway Road, Trevethin, Torfaen, shortly before 5pm on Thursday. Gwent Police said officers attended the scene following reports of a man suffering serious injuries. Mr Parfitt, 74, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. A 37-year-old man from Cwmbran has since been arrested, reports Wales Online . Paying tribute to Mr Parfitt, his family said: "Brian's passing has been a shock to both the family and the community. He was a well-loved dad and grandad and highly thought of in the community." On Friday, April 24, the investigating police force said it had made contact with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) following the incident and confirmed a referral will be submitted in line with standard procedures. Officers also asked people not to speculate about the circumstances surrounding the incident and encouraged anyone with information to contact them directly. Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Neil Blyth added: "We would like to reassure the communities of Trevethin that we are doing everything we can to establish the circumstances surrounding his death. "We understand that reports of this nature can cause concern, however we have arrested a man from the area who was known to the victim, and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident."
