He then travelled with his NU Colombia team to Spain for another race, where he was admitted to hospital with a "difficult-to-treat" infection. Munoz, whose previous teams included World Tour powerhouses UAE Team Emirates, came fourth in the 2024 Colombian Road Race Championships, and won a stage of the under-23 Giro d'Italia in 2018.His team said: "Today we bid farewell Cristian Munoz, a cyclist who turned every kilometer into a show of passion, discipline and heart."[His] death occurred as a result of medical complications arising from the accident he suffered last Saturday."Following the crash, Cristian was initially treated at a medical centre, where he received treatment for an injury to his left knee.
