Multiple dead bodies found in Union Pacific train carriage during Laredo heatwave

Police have confirmed six dead bodies have been found inside a cargo trian carriage. The horror discovery was made on a Union Pacific cargo train at a railyard in Laredo on Sunday May 10. Authorities confirmed they are launching a full investigation after the shock find. Police confirmed that six people were found dead, according to KGNS. The Laredo police department stated the bodies were discovered just after 2:30 p.m., at 12101 Jim Young Way near mile marker 13. Authorities have yet to release the identities or nationalities of those who died, or confirmed whether they were migrants. Laredo sits directly opposite Nuevo Laredo in Mexico, and is one of the busiest border crossing points between the US and Mexico. Police have previously discovered migrants at that location. In July 2024, Border Patrol agents working in the Laredo Sector rescued 23 migrants who were attempting to conceal themselves on a Union Pacific train. Agents found them locked inside an autorack railcar and brought them out safely. The recent deaths come after several days of extreme heat in the region, with weather reports confirming temperatures reached approximately 95°F, and the heat index climbing to around 104°F on Sunday afternoon, reports the Mirror US . Union Pacific released this statement about this incident that, "Union Pacific is saddened by this incident and is working closely with law enforcement to investigate."
