Multiple children left injured after tree falls at outdoor activity centre

Emergency services were called to the PGL Activity Centre on Tilford Road in Hindhead at 1.40pm on Monday. One patient was airlifted to a London hospital with a serious leg injury, while six others were taken to Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford with less serious injuries.  Eleven people were treated at the scene before being discharged.  Multiple crews were dispatched, including from the South Central Ambulance Service, South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb), the Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, Surrey Police and Surrey Fire & Rescue Service. PGL's main activity centre in Hindhead sits within 45 acres of woodland and is frequently used by schools, youth groups and holiday camps.  It offers activities such as climbing, zip-lining, archery and water sports.   PGL confirmed there had been an incident at the Marchants Hill site.  Multiple children have been injured after a tree fell at an outdoor activity centre in Surrey (pictured), with one youngster airlifted to hospital with a serious leg injury It said: 'A number of children were injured and are receiving medical treatment as required. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.  'The safety and wellbeing of the children, their teachers and our colleagues is our absolute priority. 'We are working closely with the schools involved and emergency services to support those affected and to ensure families receive timely information through their schools.' PGL added it was 'committed to supporting everyone affected'. Isle of Wight Air Ambulance confirmed one patient had been airlifted to hospital after receiving treatment at the centre.  It said an air ambulance team of a doctor and two advanced paramedics were deployed to the incident at 1.55pm.  Surrey Police said it received a report just before 2pm that a number of people had been injured after a tree came down at an activity centre in Hindhead.  It said: 'Officers attended along with partners from Surrey Fire & Rescue and the South East Coast Ambulance Service.' It comes just over a year after seven-year-old Leonna Ruka (pictured) was killed when a tree partially collapsed in Chalkwell Park in Southend-on-Sea, Essex The collapse sparked a police investigation and raised questions over the condition of the tree (pictured) after reports it had been supported by metal props Gregory Stafford, the MP for Farnham and Bordon, said his thoughts were with 'the children involved, their families and all those affected'.  He said: 'The incident has resulted in a number of injuries. While there are, thankfully, no reported fatalities, emergency services remain at the site.   'I am grateful for the swift and professional response of our emergency services.' It comes just over a year after seven-year-old Leonna Ruka was killed when a tree partially collapsed in Chalkwell Park in Southend-on-Sea, Essex.  Another young girl was left fighting for her life and three more children were injured in the incident on the afternoon of June 28, 2025.  Police, firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene as members of the public desperately tried to free the trapped children.  The collapse sparked a police investigation and raised questions over the condition of the tree after reports it had been supported by metal props. Floral tributes, cards and soft toys were left at the scene in the days after the tragedy as mourners gathered to pay their respects.
