Motorhome and campervan owners have been warned about new parking restrictions coming into force in Saltburn next week.

Redcar and Cleveland Council has confirmed the changes will begin on Monday, July 6, under new plans designed to balance the needs of residents with visitors to the seaside town.

It explained that the trial follows concerns about motorhomes parking on Marine Parade for long periods, particularly during the busy summer season.

Under the new rules, motorhomes will only be allowed to park in the existing marked bays on the north side of Marine Parade.

Drivers will be able to stay for a maximum of four hours between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday, with no return within four hours, while parking in the bays will remain unrestricted after 5pm and all day on Sundays.

However, motorhomes will be banned at all times from the remaining unmarked sections of Marine Parade on both the north and south sides.

These areas will be marked with single yellow lines and signs and the restriction will only apply to motorhomes.

The council stressed that the changes would not act as a complete ban on overnight parking altogether in the region.

It said: "The restrictions do not fully prevent overnight parking, but they limit where and for how long motorhomes may stay.

"These restrictions aim to manage overall parking demand, not to ban motorhomes, but they do prevent long-term or sustained stays on Marine Parade."

Councillor Carl Quartermain, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said the authority has listened to feedback from both householders in Saltburn and motorhome owners.

"The new restrictions will provide an area for motorhomes to park while introducing a time limit on how long they can stay, helping to ensure parking spaces remain available for residents and visitors alike," he added.

He added: "We recognise that people hold strong views on this issue and that is precisely why we are introducing the measures through an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order.

"We will continue listening to residents, businesses and visitors throughout the trial period, carefully considering any comments, concerns and evidence before deciding on the long-term future of the scheme."

Residents living on Marine Parade between Garnet Street and Saltburn Road will be eligible for parking permits, allowing them to park in the marked bays without time limits.

The council said eligible households will receive a letter explaining how to apply. Applications must be made within four weeks of receiving the letter.

The council noted that residential properties can apply for one permit for each vehicle registered at the address, plus up to two visitor permits, while businesses can apply for one permit.

The council also confirmed that no disabled parking bays will be removed, while Blue Badge holders can continue to park free of charge in council car parks.

On Marine Parade, Blue Badge holders who are not driving motorhomes can also park in the single yellow line areas.

The council explained the trial would allow the authority to "monitor the effect of the restrictions, including the impact on the wider area," before making a final decision.
