Morocco, Spain Strengthen Military Cooperation
Agadir – Moroccan and Spanish military officials met Wednesday at the Officers’ Club in Rabat to review bilateral defense cooperation and plan joint initiatives for 2026-2027, the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) announced.
The meeting of the Moroccan-Spanish Joint Military Commission aimed to assess the progress of the defense cooperation between Rabat and Madrid over the past year.
Officials assessed joint training programs, personnel exchanges, combined military exercises, and operational coordination across land, air, and naval forces.
The meeting also focused on identifying joint activities to enhance the interoperability and operational alignment of the two forces.
Officials further identified new areas for collaboration, particularly to address emerging regional security challenges in the western Mediterranean.
The commission agreed on a roadmap for 2026-2027, focusing on more joint collaborative activities, cooperation, and strategic engagement in areas of mutual interest. This plan aims to strengthen military cooperation between the two countries and stability in the region.

Morocco and Spain long standing partnership
This military collaboration builds on a long-standing security partnership between Morocco and Spain, which has developed over years of close coordination between the Moroccan General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) and Spanish security services.
The Spanish authorities have consistently commended the DGST for building trust, maintaining continuous intelligence sharing activities, and implementing coordinated counter-terrorism operations that have dismantled extremist groups in both countries.
With more than 30 joint actions since 2014, these ongoing efforts reflect a durable and evolving Moroccan-Spanish security alliance, reinforcing the strategic and operational depth of their military cooperation in the western Mediterranean.
Security coordination between Morocco and Spain showcased most recently by a joint operation in March 2026 in which Moroccan and Spanish security services dismantled an Islamic State‑linked extremist cell operating across both countries.
