Morocco Moves to Digitize Driving Licence Exams with AI Oversight

Tetouan – Morocco’s National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) is preparing a significant overhaul of how driving licence exams are conducted, turning to artificial intelligence and video monitoring to tighten oversight and restore confidence in the system.

According to le360, the reform, led by the road safety authority, introduces a technology-driven framework across both theoretical and practical testing centres.

The objective is to eliminate irregularities, ensure equal treatment for all candidates, and shield the examination process from practices that could undermine the credibility of results.

At the core of this shift is the deployment of digital tools capable of tracking each stage of the exam with precision.

These systems are designed to analyse candidate behaviour and testing conditions in real time, producing a more consistent and verifiable assessment environment while reducing the margin for human error or interference.

A central feature of the initiative is a newly developed “smart vehicle,” created in partnership with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P).

Equipped with high-definition cameras and an advanced onboard computing system, the vehicle records the full duration of the driving test, from start to finish.

Its embedded technology automatically detects infractions, from improper steering control to traffic signal violations, unsafe distances, and speed management, based on internationally recognised technical standards, without examiner input.

Beyond the examination process itself, NARSA is also streamlining administrative services through agreements with Barid Bank and Barid Cash.

These partnerships extend key services, including licence renewals, duplicates, vehicle registration documents, and ownership transfers, through simplified and standardised procedures available at their nationwide branches.

To consolidate access to information, the agency has also launched a dedicated digital platform, “NARSA Services,” offering users and professionals a centralized portal for administrative processes, online applications, and local service options.

Taken together, the measures signal a broader institutional push toward transparency, automation, and accountability in a sector long criticised for inconsistencies, marking a decisive step in the modernisation of Morocco’s road safety governance.
