Agadir – Morocco and Costa Rica signed a bilateral air transport agreement on Tuesday during the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) summit in Marrakech.

The agreement aimed at strengthening cooperation in civil aviation and expanding connectivity between the two countries.

“This meeting provided an opportunity to explore prospects of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of air transport, and identify priority hubs for the partnership between the two countries,” the ministry said.

The agreement was conducted during a meeting between Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, and the Director General of Civil Aviation of Costa Rica, Marcos Castillo Masis.

According to the Moroccan ministry, this collaboration is designed to support the opening of new air routes, improve connectivity, and foster closer economic and tourism ties through establishing a legal and institutional framework governing air transport services between Morocco and Costa Rica.

The ministry added that this “agreement comes in the context of the dynamic consolidation of bilateral relations”, and reflects both parties’ efforts to establish services that align with international standards.

This partnership is part of a series of diplomatic discussions the ministry is conducting to strengthen its transport and logistic sector.

During the first day of the GISS summit, Morocco also signed another agreement with the Republic of Yemen to consolidate relations between the two countries in the field of civil aviation.

Areas of cooperation include “supporting technical cooperation in the areas of civil aviation safety and security, assisting in the development and enhancing the quality of air transport, developing programs to support human resources capabilities and material resources,” noted the ministry.

“Strengthening exchange of experiences in the field of legislation related to aviation, civil aviation safety and security, and contribution to the development, utilization and management of aviation infrastructure,” it concluded.
