In a nip and tuck affair both sides had goal chances foiled midway through the half, Kobe McDonald sending Jordan Flynn clean through, but Flynn's effort was straight down the throat of an alert Niall Morgan. The Red Hands immediately set about the counter-attack, Eoin McElholm getting in behind the Mayo defence, only to the dispossessed by Eoin McGreal at the vital moment. Tyrone kicked six wides over the course of the half, as Ethan Jordan and Michael McKernan struck wides from two-point range. Andy Moran's side started to get to grips with the contest, McDonald, Paddy Durcan and Ryan O'Donaghue landing three scores on the bounce. Mayo looked to be heading in at the break in front, as Sam Callinan's shot was blocked by Peter Teague. The home team raced forward in an attempt to conjure up a shot before the hooter sounded.
